Bishop Carl J. Vann, Sr. holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Norfolk State University; he has also studied on the graduate level at Regent University. In March 2004, Dr. Vann was awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree in Pastoral Care from Oklahoma’s New Wine School of the Bible in Tecumseh.
Shortly after graduating from college he was employed full-time by his home church, Mason Memorial COGIC, as Public Relations Director and Graphic Coordinator. He gained valuable experience in the administration of a large church under the pastorate of his father in the gospel, Bishop David B. Williams. He served on the staff for nearly five years.
In August of 1981, he and his wife founded New Life Chapel. On September 23, 1990 Bishop Samuel Green and the Second Jurisdiction of Virginia COGIC officially dedicated the church. In October 2001, New Life Chapel became the New Life Worship Center. New Life Worship Center is an affiliate with AIM (Association of Independent Ministries) fellowship of churches founded by Dr. I.V. Hilliard, pastor of New Light Christian Center Church in Houston, Texas.
He is an accomplished author and released his first book, “Light of The Spirit” in June 2010. He has been married to the former Barbara L. Carney for over 30 years and has two adult children who also work with him and his wife in ministry.
All that New Life Worship Center has accomplished, and continues to set out to do in bettering individuals, ministries, and the community, has been carried out under the incomparable leadership of Bishop Carl J. Vann, Sr. Bishop Vann has been a strong pillar of faith, stability and integrity to all who come in contact with him. He is a father and mentor to several area pastors. Bishop Vann has well-established relationships with his peers on the local and national levels. He is also respected by congregants and communities for being a strong family man.
